Barbican Estate housing ristruttuzione
At the time of construction of the Barbican Estate, the office was used to sell the apartments of the new residential complex in London designed in the 70s by architects Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. When some years later remained empty and unused, soon attracted the attention of one of the residents of the area: the architect Ken Mackay, who made sure to buy it and turn it into a home for his family.

Barbican Estate
An empty office turned into a family home hi-tech. Located on the ground floor, with its unusual volumetric space and raw materials, turned out to current owners as a baby, with a few tweaks could become a beautiful house in central London. And so it was. To preserve the original structure, the work of conversion from office to home have been kept to a minimum. You added a mezzanine floor used as a bedroom and the partition walls have been erected to obtain children's rooms.
The same plan and arrangement of the spaces have suggested a simple and minimal intervention, which made the apartment has an interesting pattern in the art of recovery and conversion of living spaces. The design studio London Mackay and Partners (M + P), which led to the renovation work, was able to make the area of the Barbican Estate Office, keeping alive the spirit of the original 70s.
